Duties Include:

As an APS5 Senior Freedom of Information Officer

- Manage and process a range of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests relating to personal and non-personal information held by the department.
- Analyse and evaluate information to support decision making on routine matters or provide recommendations for review.
- Prepare and contribute to departmental correspondence, briefing papers, reports and talking points for review by senior staff.
- Contribute to submissions, responses, statistics to Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
- Coordinate the distribution of search minutes including the creation and allocation of search minutes, as well as providing strategy direction to assist with the retrieval of information from divisions across the department. Coordinate and collate responses as required.
- Resolve escalated issues, refer stakeholders to appropriate business area and/or expedite complex issues where necessary.
- Provide regular quality assurance and check adherence with relevant procedures and legislation.
- Maintain and file records in accordance with information management processes and security requirements.





Key Skills required as an APS5 Freedom of Information Officer

- Sound understanding of the legal obligations and policy related to the information access, and Freedom of Information processes.
- Knowledge and sound understanding of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge and understanding of legislation, policies, procedures and information management requirements relevant to the Freedom of Information, and information Access processes.
- Manage and prioritise work in the context of competing priorities.
- Communicate effectively and adapt communication style appropriate to the audience.
- Build and develop internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Support, coach and mentor others.
- Display initiative and apply sound judgement.

The Ideal Candidates

The Information Access Unit is seeking an experienced Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer who is passionate about working in a hands-on role, in a fast-paced and agile workplace. The FOI Officer will work across a broad range of personal and non-personal information requests, internal FOI review and engage with internal and external stakeholders on other complex matters.
