McArthur is seeking an experienced and qualified Gardener to join the Greenspace Services team of a major local council in Western Sydney.

This is a full-time contract opportunity for 4 months suited to a qualified horticulture professional with extensive experience maintaining public gardens, landscaped areas, parks and streetscapes.

About the role

Working as part of an established outdoor maintenance team, you will help ensure council parks, gardens and public spaces are maintained to a consistently high, safe and attractive standard.

Your responsibilities will include

- Preparing and maintaining gardens and landscaped areas
- Maintaining annual, exotic, native and high-profile gardens
- Planting trees, shrubs and other vegetation to specification
- Undertaking mulching, soil improvement and establishment maintenance
- Identifying, controlling and treating weeds manually and chemically
- Maintaining parks, reserves, nature strips and other open-space areas
- Completing turf, garden and minor landscaping maintenance
- Operating mowers, whipper snippers, edgers, tractors and other plant
- Undertaking daily pre-start checks and basic equipment maintenance
- Identifying, reporting and making workplace and public-area hazards safe
- Completing timesheets, hazard reports and WHS documentation
- Supporting the Team Leader with daily onsite activities
- Providing guidance and practical support to apprentices and other team members




- Communicating professionally with colleagues and members of the public

About you

To be considered, you will need:
- Certificate III in Horticulture or an equivalent qualification
- Alternatively, successful completion of a recognised gardening apprenticeship
- Extensive experience maintaining gardens and landscaped areas
- Current Chemical Application Accreditation
- Current unrestricted Class C driver's licence
- Experience safely operating horticultural plant and equipment
- Sound knowledge of horticultural maintenance practices
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- Ability to work effectively within a team
- Good communication and record-keeping skills
- Capacity to undertake physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions

The following will be highly regarded:
- Current MR driver's licence
- Traffic Control or Implement Traffic Control Plans accreditation
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Previous local government, parks or open-space maintenance experience
