We are seeking an enthusiastic, practical, and highly organised Design Technician to join our Design & Technology Department from October 2026 on a permanent full‑time basis. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with emerging technologies, maintaining specialist equipment, and supporting teachers and students in a hands‑on educational environment.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Supporting teachers and students with practical workshop activities and project work
- Demonstrating and promoting the safe operation of workshop machinery and specialist equipment, including laser cutters, vacuum formers, 3D printers, CAD/CAM machinery, bandsaws, and disc sanders
- Assisting with the implementation of new technologies, equipment, and workshop processes
- Purchasing, maintaining, and managing workshop machinery, tools, equipment, and consumable stock
- Conducting routine maintenance of fixed machinery, CAD/CAM equipment, and portable power tools in accordance with maintenance schedules
- Assisting the Head of Department with budget planning, purchasing, and expenditure management
- Maintaining pricing spreadsheets and supporting project costing
- Ensuring all workshop activities comply with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements, risk management practices, and College policies
- Maintaining a safe, organised, and well‑presented workshop setting.
Skills and Experience
- A Degree, Diploma, or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant experience in a technical, engineering, manufacturing, or trade‑related field
- Demonstrated experience working with workshop machinery and technical equipmentThe ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
- A willingness to embrace new technologies and continuously improve workshop practices
- Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), compliance, and risk management requirements
- Strong computer skills, including experience with Adobe Creative Suite and 3D modelling software
- Excellent organisational, communication, and time management skills
- A proactive approach with the ability to take ownership of tasks and manage competing priorities
- Current Working With Children clearance (WWCC)
- A friendly, approachable, and professional manner.
