Head of Risk Partnering
Sydney CBD: In office 3 days/week
Package: Up to $240k base + 20% bonus + super
Reporting to: GM of Risk
Direct Reports: 4x Risk Partners The Prospect:
Most risk leaders get hired to build bigger frameworks. This one is getting hired to tear one down and rebuild it around the business, not a control register.
This ASX-listed FinTech builds the software that powers Australia's financial advice sector and underpins trading, market data and investment workflows for global financial institutions.
Its flagship wealth platform holds around 65% of the advice market, generates $135m+ ARR, and sits deeply embedded across licensees, advice firms, banks, insurers and investment managers.
That kind of scale means risk decisions here carry real weight, and right now the model for making them is being rebuilt from the ground up.
The Role:
- You'll report directly to the GM of Risk and lead a team of 4 Risk Partners, each aligned to a business unit. Part of the job is building that team out. Part of it is changing how risk shows up across the business day to day, replacing control-testing theatre with a proper partnering model.
- Attitude matters as much as background here. This is someone who wants people who pick up the phone or walk over for a conversation rather than send an email, who can speak in plain language rather than risk speak, and who will hold their ground in a difficult conversation without becoming combative about it.
What you'll be doing:
- Setting the standards and methodology for how the Risk Partner function operates
- Building the team's technical and commercial capability,
and developing the roadmap for the function
- Owning enterprise risk oversight across business unit portfolios, spotting the trends that matter at a group level
- Acting as the senior escalation point when a risk matter needs independent, executive-level judgement
- Overseeing how control assessments get done and how incidents, breaches and audit findings get managed
- Making sure the executive team gets risk reporting that's actually useful, not just compliant
- Pushing the adoption of data and technology in how risk gets managed, rather than more spreadsheets
Must-haves:
- Fintech or broader tech-sector risk experience over a purely banking background
- Extensive experience in enterprise, operational or technology risk, with a real track record of building and leading teams
- Deep working knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management, the Three Lines Model, governance frameworks and GRC platforms
- Strong grounding in technology risk, cyber security, AI risk, data governance and operational resilience
- The stakeholder skills to influence, coach and push back on senior executives without losing the room
- Commercial thinking that can hold risk objectives and business outcomes in the same sentence
- Experience presenting complex risk matters at Board and Executive level
- Relevant certification (CISA, CRISC, CISM, CISSP) or tertiary study in Business, Risk or Technology
- A track record of simplifying an over-built risk framework rather than adding to it
