We are looking for an experienced Project Archaeologist(Heritage Advisor) with a passion for finding heritage-positive solutions. With a strong pipeline of work across Australia, and particularly in Victoria, we have exciting opportunities to join our team in Melbourne in a permanent role.

Our Jacobs Heritage ANZ team brings together experienced consultants working across Australia in Aboriginal archaeology, historical archaeology, maritime and underwater archaeology, interpretation, and built heritage.

We work withfederal,stateand localgovernment agencies, infrastructure owners, and private sector clients across key Australian markets:transport, water, environment, energy, defence, and the built environment;delivering integrated solutions from strategy and design through to delivery and operations.

Weprovideheritage advice across manydifferent stagesin a project lifecycle – from business case inputs and early design phase considerations, to undertaking assessments for heritage approvals and providing construction phase support.

Here’s what you'll need

To succeed inthisrole, you will bring:

- Registration as a Victorian Registered Heritage Advisor ,



with the qualifications and experiencerequiredto lead fieldworkin accordance withthe current Minister’s Guidelines; orworking towards Heritage Advisor status.
- An Honours or postgraduate degree in archaeology, heritage management, or a related discipline.
- Approx. 3–6+ years’ consulting experience ,with a focus on Aboriginal heritage in Victoria (additionalexperience outside Victoria and/or in historical heritage isadvantageous).
- Working knowledge of State and Commonwealth heritage legislation, associated regulations, and guidelines (experience outside Victoria is beneficial).
- Experiencecontributing to Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs) and delivering high-quality heritage advice.
- Solid research, fieldwork, and site analysis skills.

Skills & Capabilities

You will also demonstrate:

- Strong technical writing and reporting skills , with the ability to prepare clear andaccurateheritage reports.
- Effective verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A collaborative approach , with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- The ability to manage small to medium-sized projects , delivering on time, within budget, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

In the Project Archaeologist / Heritage Advisor role, you will:

- Lead small to medium heritage projects (i.e. high-leveladvice and CHMPs), including fieldwork and reporting.
- Support senior team members on larger and more complex projects.
- Prepare heritage reports and assessments , withappropriate guidanceand review.
- Contribute to a positive team environment and support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
