Join Veolia, a global leader with over 170 years of experience, operating in 40+ countries with 220,000 employees worldwide, including 6,500 staff across 300 sites in Australia and Recent Zealand. As part of our team, you'll contribute to crucial environmental solutions through our innovative Water, Waste, Energy and Industrial Services, helping protect the environment and address essential human needs for a sustainable future.

As a result of the company’s continued growth, a full-time opportunity is available for an experienced HSE / Permit Officer to join our Asset Maintenance and Preservation business in Henderson. The role will provide dedicated, hands-on safety and permit-to-work support across Defence, Commercial Marine and other High-Risk Project activities.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will work closely with Project Managers, Supervisors, Contractors, Vessel Representatives and HSE teams. During active SeaReady dockings, you will be seconded into the Project Team to maintain a strong field presence across multiple contractors, simultaneous work fronts and high-risk activities. Between dockings, you will support broader operational and project requirements across the business.

This is a practical site-based role suited to someone who is comfortable being visible in the field, challenging unsafe conditions, supporting operational teams and maintaining disciplined permit and contractor controls.

Responsibilities

- Permit-to-work coordination: Prepare, issue, monitor, suspend and close permits in accordance with company, client and site requirements.
- High-risk work controls: Coordinate and verify controls for hot work, working at heights, gas testing and other project-specific high-risk activities.
- Confined space support: Confirm entry requirements, atmospheric testing, standby arrangements and suitable rescue plans and equipment are established before work starts.
- Isolation coordination: Support isolation planning, verification and record keeping in conjunction with the vessel owner, client or authorised isolation authority.
- Field HSE presence: Conduct regular inspections,

work-front observations and compliance checks across contractor and employee activities.
- Contractor assurance: Verify inductions, licences, competencies, tickets and authorisations before personnel commence work.
- Risk review: Review contractor JHAs, JSEAs, SWMS and risk assessments to confirm hazards and controls are suitable for the actual work scope and conditions.
- Pre-starts and toolbox talks: Support and facilitate daily pre-starts, toolbox talks and safety communications relevant to current project risks.
- Emergency readiness: Check that emergency equipment, first-aid arrangements, fire-watch coverage, rescue plans and escalation processes remain suitable and ready for use.
- Incident and hazard support: Assist with hazard reporting, incident response, preliminary investigations and close-out of corrective actions where required.
- Records and reporting: Maintain accurate permit, isolation, inspection, training and compliance records and provide clear updates to project and operational leadership.
- Stakeholder coordination: Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, HSE, contractors, clients and vessel representatives to resolve issues without compromising safety or project delivery.
