In-House Legal Counsel (Litigation) / Fractional General Counsel
Part-time contract | One day per week | Initial three-month engagement A client is seeking an experienced litigation solicitor or suitably qualified legal services firm to act as solicitor on record and provide independent litigation support across a diverse portfolio of matters.
This role will suit a senior practitioner who is comfortable working autonomously, managing competing priorities and taking responsibility for matters from initial assessment through to resolution.
Key responsibilities The successful practitioner will provide end-to-end litigation support, including:
- preparing and reviewing pleadings, affidavits, court documents and legal correspondence
- advising on litigation strategy, procedure, risk and potential outcomes
- managing interlocutory applications and procedural matters
- representing clients in courts and tribunals, where appropriate
- supporting negotiations, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution processes
- coordinating with counsel, experts, counterparties and relevant stakeholders
- ensuring matters are progressed efficiently and in accordance with applicable court rules and deadlines
- maintaining clear records and providing concise updates on matter status, risks and required decisions
The portfolio may include matters relating to:
- property
- banking and finance
- corporate and commercial law
- family law
- wills and probate
- government and regulatory matters
- compliance
- education
Essential requirements
Applicants must have
- an unrestricted Australian practising certificate
- admission to the Supreme Court of Recent South Wales, or current authority to practise and conduct litigation in NSW
- substantial litigation and dispute-resolution experience
- the ability and willingness to act as solicitor on record
- demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision
- strong legal drafting, advocacy, negotiation and matter-management capabilities
- professional indemnity insurance appropriate to the engagement
- confidence working across Microsoft Office, iOS, VOIP, CRM and AI-enabled systems
Experience across several of the identified practice areas will be highly regarded. Applicants are not necessarily expected to be specialists in every area but must be capable of identifying when specialist counsel or additional expertise is required.
Engagement details
- Engagement type: Independent contractor or external legal services firm
- Term: Initial three-month contract
- Time commitment: One day per week
- Required availability: 9:30 am–3:30 pm Sydney time on the agreed day
- Working arrangement: To be agreed with the successful applicant
- Commencement: As soon as possible
Fee proposal
