Inhouse Consulting Engineers is expanding its forensic engineering capability across New South Wales, and we're looking for an intermediate Structural Engineer to join our growing team. This role suits an engineer who enjoys investigating how buildings perform, determining why structural damage has occurred, and communicating clear, evidence-based conclusions to our clients. Rather than focusing only on design calculations and documentation, you'll inspect residential, commercial and strata properties, analysing structural defects and preparing reports that help insurers and property owners make informed decisions.

You'll work with a high degree of autonomy, backed by technical guidance from experienced senior engineers with a formidable pedigree in forensic engineering.

Your Role

In this role, you will:

- Carry out structural inspections of residential, commercial and strata properties across the Sydney Metropolitan, Hunter and Illawarra regions.
- Investigate cracking, movement, foundation issues, water and impact damage, fire damage and other structural concerns.
- Assess the likely cause, extent and significance of observed damage.
- Distinguish between sudden damage, construction defects, deterioration and long-term building movement.
- Review drawings, photographs, reports, maintenance records and other available evidence.
- Prepare clear, concise and technically defensible forensic engineering reports.
- Recommend further investigation, monitoring or remedial works where needed.
- Liaise professionally with property owners, builders, loss adjusters, insurers and other consultants.
- Support senior engineers on complex investigations and dispute-related matters.
- Contribute to structural design and remedial engineering projects where appropriate.

About You





- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Approximately 4–8 years' structural engineering experience.
- Experience in a consulting, building, remedial or forensic engineering environment.
- Sound knowledge of concrete, steel, masonry and timber construction.
- A practical understanding of residential and low-rise building behaviour.
- The ability to identify defects and apply engineering principles to determine likely causes.
- Strong written communication skills and close attention to detail.
- The confidence to undertake inspections and speak directly with clients and property owners.
- The ability to manage your own inspections, reporting deadlines and workload.
- Registration as a professional engineer in NSW, or the qualifications and experience needed to obtain it.
- A current Australian driver's licence and access to a suitable vehicle.
- Australian permanent residency or Australian working rights.
