Join Our Team at Kepple

Kepple is a Melbourne-based technology startup that designs, builds and operates innovative mobile and web applications for the education sector. In 2024, Kepple was ranked 13th in the Australian Financial Review Fast Starters list.

Our primary product, Spark Relief Teachers, employs casual education staff and connects them with schools and early childhood centres through our mobile and web platforms. As Spark continues to grow, we are looking for an energetic and curious Junior UX/UI Designer to join our team.

About the Role

This is a full-time role based in our Richmond office with the flexibility to work from home up to two days per week.

You will primarily work on Spark Relief Teachers while also contributing to other Kepple products and projects when required. Working closely with our Product Design Manager, you will help design and improve digital experiences across mobile and web.

This role is suited to an emerging designer with some practical or professional experience who wants to develop strong product design skills. You will be supported through regular feedback and collaboration while taking ownership of defined design work.

You do not need to know everything from day one. However, you should be curious, proactive and comfortable asking questions, exploring unfamiliar problems and working independently when required.

What You’ll Do

- Design new features and improvements across Spark Relief Teachers and other Kepple products

- Create user flows, wireframes, interface designs and interactive prototypes in Figma

- Turn early concepts and product discussions into transparent design options

- Explore user problems, identify constraints and explain the reasoning behind your decisions

- Incorporate feedback from customers, stakeholders and the wider team

- Help organise and synthesise customer feedback into practical product improvements

- Improve usability, accessibility and visual consistency across our products

- Help maintain and evolve our component libraries and design system foundations

- Prepare clear design files and handover information for developers

- Review implemented designs and work with developers to improve the final experience

- Contribute ideas and perspectives during product and design discussions

About You

We are open to candidates at the beginning of their product design career. You may have professional experience or demonstrate your capability through a strong portfolio and practical project work.

You will ideally bring

- A portfolio that demonstrates your process and thinking, not only final designs

- Confidence using Figma for wireframing, interface design, prototyping and file organisation
- An understanding of UX fundamentals, common interaction patterns and responsive design

- Strong attention to detail and genuine care for the quality of your work

- Curiosity about users, products and the impact of design decisions
- The ability to manage your time and work independently on defined tasks

- Confidence asking questions, seeking context and responding constructively to feedback

- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- A willingness to experiment, learn and continuously improve

Nice to Have

Experience in any of the following would be valuable but is not essential:

- Designing digital products, SaaS tools or service-based platforms

- Working with developers as part of a product team

- Accessibility and inclusive design

- Design systems, component libraries or design documentation

- User feedback, usability testing or lightweight research

- Designing for both mobile and web platforms

Why Join Us?

- Work on digital products that create meaningful real-world impact

- Develop your product design skills through close mentorship and hands-on experience

- Take meaningful ownership of work that reaches real customers

- Join a collaborative and supportive startup team

- Hybrid working arrangement, with up to two days per week working from home
- A collaborative and supportive team culture

- Work from a bright, modern office with a rooftop terrace in Richmond

- Easy access to public transport

- Regular team events and celebrations

- A full-time role with the opportunity to grow alongside the company
