About the role

Bishop and Hart is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Carpenter / Site Foreman to join our construction team in Newcastle, NSW. This is a full-time position based on-site where you will take a leadership role in overseeing carpentry operations and managing site activities.

As Leading Hand

Carpenter / Site Foreman, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. This role is pivotal to our operations, combining hands-on carpentry expertise with supervisory responsibilities to drive project success and team performance.

Key responsibilities

- Supervise and coordinate carpentry teams on-site, ensuring adherence to project specifications and quality standards
- Manage day-to-day site operations, including work scheduling, resource allocation, and progress tracking
- Conduct daily toolbox meetings and safety briefings to ensure all team members understand site procedures and hazard management
- Perform hands-on carpentry work.
- Monitor compliance with workplace health and safety regulations, building codes, and company policies
- Liaise with project managers, architects, and clients to communicate progress and address any concerns
- Maintain accurate site records, timesheets, and documentation
- Identify and resolve on-site issues promptly, implementing corrective actions when necessary
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior carpenters and site personnel
- Conduct equipment and tool inspections to ensure they are fit for purpose and properly maintained

What we're looking for





- Formal carpentry qualification or extensive hands-on carpentry experience in residential and/or commercial construction
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a supervisory or leading hand capacity within the construction industry
- Proven track record of managing teams and delivering projects on schedule and within budget
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes relevant to carpentry and general construction
- Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to various sites as required
- Current First Aid Certificate and willingness to obtain additional certifications as required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and lead teams
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety practices
- Problem-solving ability and attention to detail
- Physical fitness and capacity to perform hands-on work on-site
- Preferred: Relevant construction management or supervisory qualifications; experience with construction management software
