We are seeking a dedicated and analytically minded Geotechnical Engineer or Geologist to join our project team based in Brisbane. This role is uniquely focused on technical competence, foundational knowledge, and academic excellence. Rather than prioritizing years of site experience, we are looking for a professional whose rigorous educational background has equipped them with the core principles of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology necessary to contribute to complex infrastructure delivery.

Key Responsibilities

- Subsurface Investigations: Assist in planning, executing, and supervising geotechnical site investigations, including borehole logging, cone penetration testing (CPT), and test pitting across Brisbane project sites.
- Geological Mapping & Modeling: Interpret geological data to develop accurate ground models and cross-sections, identifying potential geohazards or adverse ground conditions.
- Data Analysis: Process and analyze laboratory and field test data (e.g., triaxial, shear, and consolidation testing) to determine engineering parameters for design.
- Reporting: Prepare high-quality factual and interpretive geotechnical reports, ensuring all documentation aligns with Australian Standards (AS 1726 - Geotechnical Site Investigations).
- Collaboration: Work closely with senior engineers and project managers to translate geological findings into practical engineering solutions for foundations, retaining structures, and earthworks.

Educational Qualifications & Key Requirements

Critical Requirement:

Candidates must hold a formal tertiary qualification directly aligning with either the engineering or geological stream as outlined below.

1. Stream A: Geotechnical Engineering

- An Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degree (Bachelor, Master, or PhD) in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Mining Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Eligibility for graduate membership with Engineers Australia (IEAust) .
- Core Academic Focus: Solid academic transcripts featuring advanced coursework in:
- Soil Mechanics & Rock Mechanics
- Foundation Engineering & Retaining Structures
- Slope Stability Analysis
- A Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) in Geology, Applied Geology, or Engineering Geology.
- Eligibility for graduate membership with the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG) or the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) .
- Core Academic Focus: Strong academic transcripts featuring advanced coursework in:
- Field Mapping Techniques
- Rock Mass Classification systems (e.g., RMR, Q-system)

Core Competencies & Skills

- Technical Literacy: A deep, first-principles understanding of how soil and rock behave under engineering loads.
- Software Familiarity: Exposure during academic studies to industry-standard software such as GeoStudio (SLOPE/W, SEEP/W), Rocscience (Dips, Slide, RocFall), or Plaxis is highly regarded.
- Communication: Exceptional technical writing skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex geological concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Safety & Compliance: A strong personal commitment to Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and a willingness to undertake site induction protocols specific to Queensland.
