The Opportunity Our client is a leading professional services firm based in the Melbourne CBD. The firm invests heavily in its people - offering genuine flexibility, generous leave entitlements, and a real commitment to learning and development.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to step into a Payroll Manager role with full ownership of a national payroll function, leading a small, high-performing team and playing a key leadership role within the broader Finance function.
The Challenge
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will lead a Melbourne-based team of two and take full ownership of the national payroll function, covering a monthly pay cycle for over 1,000 employees nationally.
Key responsibilities will include
- Accurate and timely delivery of payroll payments, including garnishments, benefits and taxes, consistent with federal and state wage laws
- Preparation and lodgement of monthly and annual workers' compensation returns, payroll tax returns and PAYG withholding tax reconciliations
- Accurate and timely processing of new hires, transfers, promotions and terminations
- Management of superannuation contributions and compliance, including monthly reconciliations
- Preparation of regular management reporting, including month-end, leave liability and payroll journals
- Driving continuous improvement across payroll systems and processes, including playing a leading role in an active payroll system migration
- Leading, mentoring and developing a small team, building capability and role-modelling solid leadership
- Building and maintaining strong cross-functional relationships with senior stakeholders across the business
The Expertise Please consider expressing interest in this position if you possess the following:
- A robust background in payroll, with people leadership or mentoring experience highly regarded
- Sound knowledge of payroll systems and processes; exposure to large-scale payroll system migrations advantageous
- Solid understanding of PAYG, FBT, payroll tax, superannuation and relevant legislative requirements
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships with senior stakeholders
- Professional services experience is not essential - candidates from large corporate payroll environments are encouraged to apply
