The Opportunity

Our client is a nationally recognised retail organisation with a workforce of more than 1,000 employees across multiple sites throughout Australia. Having built an exceptional reputation within their sector, they continue to invest heavily in their people, technology and operational excellence.

As Payroll Manager, you will take ownership of a large, high-volume payroll function, leading an experienced team while ensuring payroll is delivered accurately, efficiently and in line with legislative requirements. This is a highly visible leadership role, partnering closely with Finance, HR and Operations to continuously improve payroll processes and enhance the employee experience.

Beyond the day-to-day operation, you’ll play a key role in driving payroll transformation, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve controls and support future system enhancements. The Challenge

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will lead the end-to-end payroll function for a workforce of 1,000 employees. Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading and developing the payroll team.
- Overseeing the accurate and timely processing of weekly and monthly payrolls.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant payroll legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, superannuation, payroll tax and PAYG obligations.
- Managing month-end and year-end payroll reporting and reconciliations.
- Building robust relationships with HR, Finance and Operational leaders across the business.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy and compliance.
- Supporting payroll system enhancements,



optimisation projects and future transformation initiatives.
- Acting as the senior escalation point for complex payroll matters.
- Delivering meaningful payroll reporting and insights to support business decision-making.

The Expertise

Please consider expressing interest in this position if you possess the following:

- Extensive end-to-end payroll management experience within a large, high-volume environment.
- Previous experience leading payroll teams and developing high-performing staff.
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, payroll tax and superannuation.
- Experience managing payroll for large, multi-site workforces, ideally within retail, hospitality, or another high-volume environment.
- A continuous improvement mindset with a track record of driving process optimisation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the business.
- Strong systems capability, including exposure to major payroll platforms and advanced Excel.
- A proactive, hands-on leadership style with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering outstanding outcomes.
