Do you love working on cars and want to do more than just standard services day in, day out?
At Tuned by Chop, we offer exactly that — a workshop where your day covers everything from solid, well-executed vehicle servicing through to hands-on performance builds on some seriously exciting cars. We're a tight-knit team in Rockhampton that genuinely cares about doing great work, growing together, and building a workshop culture worth showing up for.
About Tuned by Chop
Tuned by Chop is a Rockhampton-based performance tuning and modification specialist. Our reputation is built on precision, passion, and the quality of our team. We invest in the people who join us — through training, mentoring, and real opportunities to grow into more senior roles as the business expands.
The Role
As our Mechanic, you'll split your time between keeping customers' vehicles in top shape through reliable day-to-day servicing, and getting involved in the performance side of the business — helping to fit and prep vehicles for modification and dyno work under the guidance of our Lead Mechanic. No two days are exactly the same, and that's the point.
What You'll Be Doing
- Routine logbook and general servicing — oil and filter changes, fluid top-ups, and wear item replacements
- Brake inspections and replacements, spark plugs, belts, and batteries
- Identifying and documenting faults accurately using job cards and service records
- Assisting with performance parts fitment: exhausts, suspension kits, intercoolers, brake upgrades, and more
- Supporting engine work and cooling system modifications under the Lead Mechanic's direction
- Preparing vehicles for dyno sessions, including pre-run checks and sensor fitment
- Using diagnostic tools to identify faults and interpret trouble codes
- Keeping your workbay clean, safe, and organised
- Contributing to a positive team environment and supporting apprentices
What We're Looking For
- Certificate III in Automotive Technology (or equivalent trade qualification) as minimum
- 3–5 years plus of hands-on workshop experience
- Solid competency across routine servicing, brakes, suspension, and diagnostics
- Comfortable using workshop diagnostic tools and interpreting results
- A genuine interest in performance vehicles — you don't have to be an expert yet, but you need to care
- Someone who takes pride in their work and holds themselves to a high standard
- A good communicator who works well as part of a team
- Valid Queensland Driver's Licence
Experience with aftermarket parts fitment, performance cars, or dyno preparation is a bonus — but attitude and willingness to learn matter just as much to us. Why Join the Tuned by Chop Team?
- ? A team that has your back — close-knit crew where you're mentored, not just managed
- ? A real path forward — genuine stepping stone to Lead Mechanic; we promote from within
- ? Variety in your day — always learning, never bored
- ? Work you're proud of — every job that leaves our workshop reflects the whole team
