Flinders University and the Adelaide PHN are offering a PhD Enterprise Scholarship to undertake innovative research into health economics evaluation of primary care health care initiatives. The Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) and the Adelaide PHN are collaborating on this research project to inform decision makers about efficient allocation of services and funding in the Adelaide PHN.

Bringing significant industry experience to the project, the Adelaide PHN is a well-respected and dynamic organisation focused on improving both health outcomes, and the experience of primary health care within the Adelaide metropolitan region. Working closely with the wider Adelaide community and benefitting from the experience and knowledge of primary health care providers, it’s the job of Adelaide PHN to ensure the health system better meets people’s needs.

FHMRI is a broad, multi-disciplinary, highly dynamic and skilled community of researchers spread across a footprint spanning the central corridor of Australia. Established in 2019, FHMRI has rapidly gained a reputation for its world leading health and medical research. Its research impact extends across scientific breakthroughs, innovation in clinical practice, policy and practice reform, and transformation of population health and equity outcomes.

This project may involve:

- Measuring whether healthcare interventions and models of care are delivering anticipated outcomes for consumers and healthcare staff, and value for money,
- Understanding whether the benefits of healthcare interventions and models of care are being equitably shared by consumers,
- Evaluating the implementation of healthcare interventions and models of care within the PHNs,
- Determining 'best practice' for assessing value for money within the context of the Australian primary health care sector,
- Prioritisation of healthcare interventions and models of care that address challenges associated with aging populations, chronic disease prevention and management and rapidly evolving medical technologies including Artificial Intelligence.

The PhD Enterprise Scholarship also includes an internship of at least 60 full-time equivalent days, agreed to in written form within 18 months of candidature, undertaken and completed prior to completion of the PhD, during which you will be embedded with the industry partner team, developing your network, and gaining insight into the everyday research practices of an industry-leading/service driven organisation.
