About the Hospital

The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) is a leading paediatric hospital in Melbourne that has cared for children and young people of Victoria for over 150 years. It provides a full range of paediatric and adolescent health services and tertiary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients across Victoria, Tasmania, southern Recent South Wales and other Australian states.

About the Role

These are fixed‑term, full or part‑time positions up to 86 hours per fortnight within the Department of Neonatal Medicine. The candidate will be responsible for the day‑to‑day care of patients in the NICU in consultation with the Neonatal Fellow and attending Neonatologist. The role offers experience managing a wide range of neonatal medical and surgical problems and participation in the educational and research activities of the Department.

Classification will range from HM 25 – HM 30.

Your Skills and Experience

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
- English language proficiency: if your secondary and tertiary education was not completed in Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, the United States of America or South Africa, evidence of an accepted English test (e.g. IELTS, OET, TOEFL iBT, NZREX or PLAB) is required




- At least 6 months of experience in a level 6 neonatal intensive care unit is desirable; other acute care experience will be considered

About the Department

The Newborn Intensive Care Unit at RCH provides highly specialised medical and surgical care to the sickest newborn infants from Victoria, Southern New South Wales and Tasmania. The Department aims to improve health outcomes for newborn babies through comprehensive specialist care and by delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education to train the next generation of neonatal health professionals.

Other Requirements

- Current national criminal record check, or willingness to obtain one
- Valid working with children check
- Compliance with RCH’s Staff Immunisation procedure
- Vaccination against influenza annually for Category A and B roles, and compliance with any other disease immunity requirements as directed by RCH
