Role Overview

Jacobs are looking for a botanist to join our Victorian ecology team to support a well established pipeline of works. We are seeking a high performing individual to fulfil the Associate Ecologist role.

The Jacobs team delivers complex and technically challenging local and national projects for public and private clients involved in a wide range of infrastructure and development activities, including public utilities, renewable energy, resource projects, transport infrastructure, and large‑scale environmental management and monitoring programs. The role is based in Melbourne.

The purpose of this role is to provide technical skills and expertise with a strong focus on flora to support development activities, referral applications and environmental monitoring and compliance.

Activities Include

- Desktop review of flora and fauna databases and ecological modelling
- Field surveys (vegetation and habitat survey and mapping)
- Impact assessment reporting
- Development of ecological management plans to avoid, remedy and mitigate adverse effects on the environment
- Advising clients on relevant legislative and offsetting requirements (EPBC Act, FFG Act, P&E; Act)

Primary Responsibilities

- Undertaking flora assessments, including desktop assessment,



field survey and reporting, as required
- Contributing to a high performing Victorian ecology team that sits within a broader national ecological section
- Building strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders to identify project opportunities
- Supporting proposal and project delivery in collaboration with a range of disciplines
- Mentoring and supporting junior staff

Essential Skills And Experience

- Degree in a relevant science discipline (e.g. ecology, environmental science, natural resource management)
- Approx 7+ years of experience in the delivery of ecology projects in Victoria
- Advanced knowledge and identification skills for Victorian flora
- Advanced knowledge of state and Commonwealth legislation (EPBC Act, FFG Act, P&E; Act)
- Willingness to undertake travel for fieldwork, including occasional extended trips
- Proven report writing skills and demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Current driver’s licence
- 4WD training and experience, or willingness to complete training

Desirable competencies

- GIS skills and experience, including use of ESRI ArcGIS Pro and Field Maps for data collection and analysis
- Working knowledge of new technologies in field survey and analysis
