About the Role

We are seeking a Trainee Operator to join our team at Bayswater Power Station in Muswellbrook. This is a permanent role which includes an on-call component, so we're looking for people who are local to the area. As a Trainee Operator at SPIE, you'll work closely with our experienced team, who will train you in the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the Ash and/or Water Handling plant.

This role sits within in our Power Services division which provides operations and maintenance services to over 30 power generation assets across Australia. What you’ll do

- Learn the operation of the Water and/or Ash handling plants at one of the largest power stations in the country.
- Operate and support the operation of all assigned work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform diagnostic testing of equipment failures, resolve issues, and recommend improvements to enhance equipment reliability.
- Ensure plant and equipment are maintained in optimal operating condition, meeting the production targets of the business.
- Coordinate the preparation, issuing, authorisation, and return of Permits to Work, as well as the return-to-service process for isolated plant.
- Manage emergency operations for plant equipment that cannot be controlled from the Control Room.
- Report and document any defects, operational issues, or faults promptly, ensuring that corrective actions are taken and operational logs are completed.

What you’ll have

- Strong commitment to working and operating within a Zero Harm safety culture.
- Electrical or Mechanical trade qualification (Electrical with HV switching certificate preferred).
- Experience in an operational role within power generation or a heavy industry environment.




- Solid understanding of PLCs and Plant Control Systems.
- Advanced diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Knowledge of Power Plant Operations and Maintenance is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Construction Induction.
- Working at Heights and Confined Space certifications are advantageous.
