Graduate Engineer – Structural Engineering (Feb 2027 Program)

The Role

As a Graduate at SMEC, you’ll be part of a high-impact talent group, contributing to the delivery of major infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists. Our two-year Graduate Development Program (GDP) is designed to accelerate your growth — combining hands‑on project experience with structured learning, mentoring, and exposure across teams and disciplines. Once completed, successful Graduates move along our Career Pathways, transitioning to their Professional title (either ‘Graduate’ or ‘Scientist’ depending on the technical discipline) and then onwards. Growth is a balanced blend of experience, tenure, development, goals and desired trajectory.

Key Responsibilities

- You’ll support the delivery of structural engineering as part of Infrastructure & Energy projects from day one — contributing to analysis, design and technical documentation while learning from experienced engineers and gaining exposure to real‑world project delivery.




- Contribute to the delivery of structural engineering projects by supporting design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation
- Assist with structural analysis and calculations, ensuring designs align with relevant Australian Standards and codes under guidance from senior engineers
- Participate in site visits and inspections to develop an understanding of how structural designs are implemented on live projects
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate structural inputs and support overall project delivery
- Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practice through structured development and on‑the‑job experience

About You

You’re a motivated Structural Engineering graduate who enjoys problem‑solving, working in teams, and contributing to real‑world infrastructure and building projects. You will bring:

- A degree in Civil / Structural Engineering (or related discipline)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive and adaptable mindset, with a willingness to learn and take initiative
- Exposure to structural design tools and analysis software (e.g. AutoCAD)
