Product Development Engineer

Main Purpose of Role: As part of a small team, you will contribute to the design and development of innovative new products and improvements to existing products for the Australian market. Working closely with suppliers, manufacturing, sales and purchasing teams, you will manage projects from concept through to production, ensuring products meet performance, durability, manufacturability and customer requirements whilst remaining commercially viable.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Designing new products and enhancing existing product ranges.
- Creating and maintaining accurate 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Maintain a neat and organised file system
- Researching and sourcing components and suppliers, both locally and internationally.
- Building, assembling and testing prototypes to validate product performance.
- Working with production teams to ensure a smooth transition from development into manufacture.
- Preparing technical documentation including specifications, operating instructions and product information.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders and overseas suppliers to resolve technical issues and deliver projects on time.




- Continuously identifying opportunities to improve product performance, manufacturing efficiency and product cost.
- Maintaining a strong focus on workplace safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Experience Required To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

- A Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Industrial Design or a related discipline, or demonstrated relevant professional experience. 2 - 5 years professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing and developing manufactured products from concept through to production.
- Demonstrated experience creating CAD models (SolidWorks preferred), engineering drawings and BOM’s
- Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials within an ERP system (SAP preferred).
- Practical hands-on experience assembling, testing and evaluating prototypes.
- Familiarity with common workshop hand tools and power tools.
- An understanding of manufacturing processes including fabricated steel, plastics or similar products.
- Sourcing experience, including working with overseas manufacturers.
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, production, sales and purchasing teams.
- Experience preparing technical documentation and product support material will be highly regarded.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently while contributing to a cooperative team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills with a practical and enthusiastic approach.
- Suited to someone that prefers the autonomy of working as part of a small team.
