MCJ Appointments is seeking an experienced energy, utilities or sustainability skilled to join a local Council and lead the planning and delivery of strategic energy initiatives across its operations.

This influential role will act as Council’s technical lead and Subject Matter Expert for energy management, utilities, renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon reduction. You will help Council establish a reliable, cost-effective and future-ready energy portfolio while supporting its transition to a zero-emission fleet.

The Opportunity Working with Council’s fleet, assets, property, infrastructure, procurement, finance and sustainability teams, you will analyse energy performance, develop long-term strategies and deliver projects that reduce operational costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

You will also provide specialist technical advice on the energy infrastructure needed to support fleet electrification, including depot capacity, EV charging, solar generation and battery storage.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement Council’s energy, utility and renewable energy strategies.
- Analyse electricity and gas consumption, demand profiles, network charges and expenditure.
- Identify opportunities to reduce energy costs, peak demand and carbon emissions.
- Forecast future energy requirements across Council facilities and depots.
- Assess electrical capacity to support EV charging and fleet electrification.
- Manage solar PV assets, maintenance arrangements, warranties and system performance.
- Investigate battery storage, microgrids and other renewable energy technologies.
- Deliver energy, utility and sustainability projects from planning through to completion.
- Prepare project scopes, budgets, schedules, risk plans and technical specifications.
- Develop business cases, lifecycle costings and return-on-investment assessments.
- Lead procurement and contract-management activities for energy-related services.
- Manage relationships with retailers, network providers,



consultants and contractors.
- Develop performance dashboards, executive reports and measurable energy KPIs.
- Ensure projects comply with relevant legislation, Australian Standards and Council policies.
- Identify grant opportunities and prepare funding submissions.

About You

You will bring:

- Demonstrated experience in energy management, utilities, electrical infrastructure, renewable energy or sustainability.
- Strong knowledge of energy consumption, demand management, tariffs and utility costs.
- Experience delivering energy, infrastructure or sustainability projects.
- Exposure to solar PV, battery storage, EV charging or fleet electrification projects.
- Strong analytical, forecasting and financial-modelling skills.
- Experience preparing business cases, technical reports and executive recommendations.
- Procurement, tendering, supplier and contract-management experience.
- Strong project-management and stakeholder-engagement capabilities.
- The ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
- An understanding of relevant legislation, technical standards and governance requirements.
