The Team
Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the northern regions of Tasmania. NTPS is the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania, delivering high‑quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists and private hospitals. Patients receive Medicare‑eligible tests at no out‑of‑pocket expense. The team includes scientists, technicians, non‑technical staff and pathologists.

Appointment Details
Permanent part‑time, day worker position, working up to 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
Hours are negotiable with the successful applicant.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary range: Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 – Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3, $222,789 – $319,701 per annum pro rata, plus 12% superannuation and access to salary packaging.
- Additional allowances and benefits: living expenses up to $9,010 and meals and entertainment $2,650 per year,
motor vehicle allowance $28,786 per annum pro rata, private practice scheme participation or allowance, continuing professional development allowance $17,483 per annum, travel and relocation assistance up to $15,000 for overseas applicants and $10,000 for interstate applicants, study leave, professional development pathways, fitness passport access, and other applicable allowances.
- Salary ranges are in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025.
Eligibility
- Holds specialist registration, or is a registered medical practitioner who is an international medical graduate on the specialist pathway, or has a recognised overseas specialist qualification with sufficient experience.
- Desirable: experience in anatomical pathology, cytopathology and chemical pathology, successful completion of an Australasian or equivalent overseas training programme in pathology.
