Primary objective

Under the direction of the Team Leader, support the provision of services to vulnerable children and their families residing in remote communities.

Context statement The Remote Child and Family Safety Program provides place-based services in remote communities with an integrated safety and support focus which combines domestic, family and sexual violence responses and interventions that are flexible and dependant on community needs.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Assist other workers and clients/families communicate with each other.
2.



Under supervision provide and/or support the provision of, casework services that address child safety concerns,

including the provision of cultural advice and advocacy.
- Provide information, assistance and/or practical support to clients and their families to access local services in relation to child safety concerns.
- Undertake a variety of administrative duties to ensure accurate client records.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Knowledge of the impact of family violence on remote Aboriginal family life and an ability to talk with clients and to

assist them to plan for their future safety
1. Ability to speak one of the Aboriginal languages used in the local community and ability to speak and write English.
2. Have detailed knowledge of the family groups and relationships within the community.
3. Ability to understand and communicate the work of the department to local families in the local language.
4. Ability to provide cultural advice and work within the context of the Department of Children and Families legislative

mandate to keep children safe from harm.
- Demonstrated ability to advocate on behalf of clients to ensure culturally secure service provision.
- Ability to work with others to address concerns about the safety of children.
- Understand and demonstrate a commitment to privacy principles and confidentiality of client information.
- Possess basic computer skills and have the ability to perform basic administrative duties.

Desirable

1. A current NT Driver’s licence or ability to acquire.
2. Ability and willingness to travel away from home by 4WD or light aircraft, including overnight stays, when required.
