About the Role The Retail Buyer is responsible for selecting and purchasing produce for our daily farmers‑market operations. You will travel early mornings to markets and suppliers, assess product quality, negotiate pricing, and ensure our stalls are consistently stocked with fresh, in‑demand items.
Key Responsibilities
- Select and purchase produce based on customer demand, seasonal availability, and market trends
- Travel early mornings to farmers markets, wholesalers, and suppliers
- Assess product quality, pricing, and supply options
- Negotiate prices, delivery schedules, and supply agreements
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and regular customers
- Analyse sales patterns to guide buying decisions
- Plan and monitor inventory levels to ensure consistent stock and minimise waste
- Maintain purchasing records, invoices, and delivery documentation
- Work closely with a small team to support daily stall operations
What You Bring
- Experience in retail buying, produce purchasing, or supply chain (preferred)
- Robust negotiation and communication skills
- Ability to work early mornings and manage regular travel
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and make confident purchasing decisions
- Reliable, proactive, and comfortable in a small‑team environment
