About the role
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Laboratory Assistant to join our expanding team.
The role primarily involves preparing and testing food samples in accordance with laboratory procedures and quality standards. You will also assist with sample collection, data entry, reporting, and general laboratory duties.
This is a casual role with hours varying according to workload. Applicants should be available to work flexibly, including up to full-time hours during busy periods and occasional weekend work once trained.
As part of a small team, you will also help keep the laboratory clean, organised, and running efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Preparing food samples for testing;
- Data entry, and recording of samples and test information in laboratory systems;
- Collecting and transporting samples;
- Preparing equipment and laboratory materials;
- Cleaning work areas, washing equipment and disposing of waste;
- Restocking supplies and assisting with general laboratory tasks; and
- Following laboratory procedures, quality requirements, and safety standards.
About you
Experience in food laboratory will be highly regarded. Experience in commercial kitchens, food manufacturing or food production will also be valuable.
This role may suit someone studying microbiology or laboratory techniques part-time who has flexible availability.
You will need to:
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident with the right to work in Australia;
- Be currently located in New South Wales;
- Hold a current unrestricted driver’s licence;
- Be reliable, punctual and willing to work flexible schedule;
- Have strong attention to detail and an inquisitive mindset;
- Learn new procedures quickly and follow instructions carefully;
- Work efficiently, accurately, and responsibly;
- Be comfortable with cleaning, repetitive, and physical tasks; and
- Work well independently and as part of a small team.
Relevant experience is preferred, but training will be provided to a suitable applicant with the right attitude and ability to learn.
This role is casual and will range from 26 to 30 hours per week. The role is paid at $33.71 per hour.
