About the Role The Senior Public Practice Accountant will manage a portfolio of clients, deliver high-level accounting and taxation services, and provide strategic business advice. This role requires strong technical capability, excellent client relationship skills and the ability to work independently while supporting junior team members.
Key Responsibilities - Manage a diverse portfolio of business and individual clients.
- Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns and compliance reports.
- Provide taxation advice and business advisory services.
- Complete complex accounting tasks including reconciliations, reporting and financial analysis.
- Assist clients with business structures, planning and financial decision-making.
- Review work prepared by junior accountants and provide guidance and mentoring.
- Liaise directly with clients, ATO representatives and other professional stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve client outcomes and accounting processes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, taxation legislation and professional requirements.
- Assist with workflow management and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Selection
Criteria - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- CA/CPA qualification or working towards completion.
- Demonstrated experience in public practice accounting.
- Strong knowledge of Australian taxation legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience preparing financial statements, tax returns and management reports.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills.
- Strong client relationship and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, APS, HandiSoft or similar platforms. Desirable - Experience managing a client portfolio independently.
- Experience providing business advisory services to SMEs.
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior accounting staff.
- Knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems and automation tools.
- Strong understanding of ATO processes and reporting obligations.
