THE ROLE The Senior Adviser for East Statewide Coordination and Implementation, Aboriginal Self-determination and Outcomes Division contributes significantly to the strategic direction of Department Families Fairness and Housing (DFFH) by providing earlier and more connected support. The position advances the well-being of Aboriginal individuals, families and communities by creating opportunities for social and economic participation, and by driving localised, community-centred solutions that support Aboriginal people to build better lives and reach their full potential. The role leads the delivery of agreed key projects and initiatives, in partnership with Aboriginal community, inter-sectoral and whole-of-government partners.

It maintains a continuous focus on service quality, innovative delivery models and improved outcomes across Aboriginal health, community and social welfare. Central to this work is a genuine partnership approach with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and the broader sector to ensure self-determined outcomes for local communities. This includes applying place-based approaches that recognise the unique characteristics, relationships and strengths of each community and location when designing or investing in interventions.

Adviser will also play a critical role in developing community engagement strategies that align with the broader goal of self-determination – helping Aboriginal individuals and communities to exercise agency, make decisions that benefit them, and build resilient, self-sufficient communities better equipped to address their own challenges and opportunities.

Accountabilities Include





Identify opportunities to improve service quality and evidence-based service models through effective consultation with key Aboriginal communities, stakeholders and organisations.

Support monitoring of existing programs and services on the experience of Aboriginal people, including, contributing towards development and implementation of relevant policies, programs and plans.

Work in partnership across DFFH to advocate for better outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities and actively participate in relevant key department forums, networks and committees.
