About The Opportunity

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in highly sophisticated Genomics Laboratories that specialise in haematological and cancer genomic testing. You will work in a team of highly trained and experienced technical and scientific staff who offer innovative genomic testing solutions. This role will involve ongoing professional development and validation of new and exciting testing technologies, as well as the production of routine diagnostic next-generation sequencing data for analysis and clinical reporting alongside other genomic tests.

NSW Health Pathology Genomics - Westmead site is located on the Westmead Hospital Precinct with beautiful surroundings and outdoor areas. The team you will be working with is dedicated, committed and positive, and strives for excellence to provide a quality Genomics service to NSW communities.

What You'll Be Doing

Responsible for the leadership and management of scientific, technical and support staff, overseeing all testing, associated laboratory activities and operational logistics within the assigned laboratory. The role is accountable for maintaining quality, cost efficiency and operational integrity, ensuring regulatory compliance and accreditation standards are met, and providing effective human resource, business and resource management. The position also requires the demonstrated ability to lead and manage a complex Genomics service within metropolitan Sydney.

Requirements

- Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems
- Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting
- Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems
- Extensive high level knowledge of working within the relevant section of the laboratory with knowledge of the operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory
- Sound understanding of legislation,



policies and requirements that impact the laboratory setting including work health and safety and privacy requirements
- Demonstrated experience in the operation, optimisation, and quality management of NGS platforms, including the analysis and interpretation of genomic alterations in solid tumours, to deliver high-quality clinical molecular diagnostic services.
