About the Role
The Parks & Gardens Branch plays a vital role in caring for and managing the Sunshine Coast’s public open spaces, foreshore reserves and recreational areas. As part of a team committed to preserving natural landscapes and supporting active, healthy communities, you'll contribute to maintaining the region's valuable green infrastructure while helping deliver Council's vision of being Australia's most sustainable region.
As an Arborist Technician, you will be a key member of the Arboricultural Services Team,
supporting the delivery of proactive and programmed tree maintenance across amenity streetscapes and neighbourhood parks. This hands‑on role offers variety, autonomy and the opportunity to work across some of the Sunshine Coast's most diverse environments, helping ensure community safety, environmental sustainability and the long‑term health of Council's urban forest.
- Perform amenity street and neighbourhood park tree maintenance, including advanced tree climbing activities.
- Safely operate and maintain arboricultural equipment, including trucks and wood chippers.
- Maintain accurate operational records, including daily running sheets, costing details and timesheets.
- Support a strong safety culture by adhering to WHS requirements and participating in ongoing training and development.
About you
You hold a Certificate in Arboriculture and have proven experience working in arboriculture, ideally within local government or a similarly customer-focused operational environment.
You bring demonstrated tree climbing experience using rope and harness techniques, along with hands‑on knowledge of the equipment, plant and materials used in urban tree maintenance.
You have a solid commitment to workplace safety and understand the importance of following procedures,
managing risks and contributing positively to a safe working environment.
You communicate effectively, build positive working relationships and take a proactive approach to managing your workload while contributing to team success and continuous improvement.
Pre-Employment Medical Required
Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre‑employment medical assessment.
