Acting as a trusted commercial advisor within an integrated client team, you'll provide the contractual leadership needed to support informed decision-making, manage commercial risk, and help drive successful project outcomes. Your expertise will strengthen the team's commercial capability while ensuring contractual obligations, entitlements and project objectives remain firmly aligned.
Role Summary
As Senior Contract Manager, you will be the client-side commercial representative responsible for administering a major Design & Construct contract. Working closely with project leadership, technical specialists and contractor representatives, you will lead the assessment of contractual matters, navigate complex negotiations and provide strategic advice that protects the client's position throughout project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary contractual advisor to the project team, providing clear guidance on contract interpretation, obligations and entitlements.
- Lead the administration of a major Design & Construct contract, ensuring contractual processes are managed effectively and consistently.
- Assess, negotiate and resolve variations, compensation events, claims and contract notices in line with contractual requirements.
- Provide balanced commercial recommendations that support project objectives while protecting the client's interests and managing risk exposure.
- Build productive relationships with contractor representatives and lead negotiations to achieve practical and commercially sound outcomes.
- Support governance, reporting and commercial decision-making across the project lifecycle, from delivery through to close-out.
Here's what you'll need
- Demonstrated success managing complex commercial and contractual matters on major infrastructure, transport, utilities or capital delivery projects.
- Solid expertise administering Design & Construct contracts, with the ability to confidently navigate contractual issues, ambiguities and competing stakeholder interests.
- Experience evaluating change requests, claims and commercial submissions, supported by sound analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Proven ability to influence outcomes, challenge assumptions constructively and negotiate effectively in high-profile project environments.
- Experience working within client-side or equivalent project environments, balancing commercial outcomes with delivery priorities.
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Commerce or a related discipline; exposure to NEC4 contracting frameworks will be highly regarded.
