The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre (TAC) is seeking an outstanding senior clinician to join its executive leadership team as Medical Director. This is a pivotal role within one of Australia’s longest-standing Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, providing strategic clinical leadership across a statewide network of culturally grounded primary health services.

Working in partnership with Aboriginal leadership and multidisciplinary health teams, the Medical Director will help guide the delivery of high-quality, culturally safe care that improves health outcomes for Tasmanian Aboriginal people and communities.

About the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre

The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre is a Community Controlled Organisation dedicated to advancing the rights, health, and wellbeing of Aboriginal people in Tasmania. TAC delivers a broad range of integrated services including primary health care, cultural programs, policy advocacy, and community support.

Health services are delivered through a holistic, culturally informed model of care, supporting individuals, families, and communities across Tasmania.

About the Role

The Medical Director provides senior clinical leadership and oversight across TAC’s health services. The role ensures the highest standards of clinical governance, safety, and quality while supporting innovation in Aboriginal Community controlled primary health care.

Key elements of the role include:





- Providing strategic clinical leadership across TAC health programs and services
- Leading and strengthening clinical governance, quality, and safety frameworks
- Supporting and mentoring medical practitioners and multidisciplinary health teams
- Partnering with Aboriginal leadership to guide service development and innovation
- Contributing to the long-term strategic direction of TAC health services
- Promoting culturally safe, trauma-informed, and community-led models of care
- Representing TAC in partnerships with health services, government, and sector organisations

The position may be based at any of the TAC sites in Tasmania, with Hobart preferred, and involves collaboration with teams across TAC’s statewide network.

About You

You are a respected medical leader who combines clinical excellence with a deep commitment to improving health equity and working alongside Aboriginal communities.

You will bring:

- Current registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
- Fellowship with RACGP, ACRRM, or another relevant specialist college (or equivalent senior clinical experience)
- Demonstrated leadership in primary health care, public health, or Aboriginal health services
- Experience in clinical governance, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary team leadership
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative leadership skills
- A commitment to culturally safe and Community controlled health care

Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is highly regarded.
