Staff Specialist Gastroenterologist/Fellow/Senior Hospital Medical Officer

- Senior Hospital Medical Officer: SHMO 1 – SHMO 2 Remuneration Package $200,989 - $207,487 (including salary $179,454 - $185,256) + Allowances
- Gastroenterology Fellow: Fellow FEL 1 – Remuneration Package $231,794 (including salary $197,760) + Allowances
- Gastroenterologist: Staff Specialist Clinician SMO 1.1 – SMO 1.6 Remuneration package $249,959 - $305,454 (including salary $213,380 - $298,705) + Allowances
- Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals - Division of Medicine
- Darwin Northern Territory
- Fixed full time for 12 months – possibility of extension

Provide consultant level management of inpatients admitted with Gastrointestinal and Hepatology conditions within Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH). This will encompass the assessment of acute inpatients, appropriate investigation and formulation of a management plan. High level of leadership and management skills will be required to supervise and support a team of junior staff and nurses to coordinate care of a large number of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Hepatology outpatients. An exceptional understanding of complex discharge planning and willingness to engage ambulatory care services will be required in our challenging environment. Participation in elective endoscopy lists, on-call roster is also expected, and remote outreach may be required.

Key duties and responsibilities

- Provision of consultant ward service, supervision, teaching and support of junior medical officers (Advanced Trainee, Basic Physician Trainee, Resident Medical Officer, Interns, medical students) and nursing colleagues.
- Participation in regular elective out-patient endoscopy lists and on-call roster
- Attendance at regular Departmental Meetings (Consultant Meeting, Mortality and Morbidity, Journal Club, Radiology Meeting).
- Follow defined service quality standards,



work health and safety policies and procedures relating tothe work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, secure services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

- Eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Applicants may be:
- A Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Gastroenterology and Hepatology with specialist registration and certification in Adult Gastroscopy and Adult Colonoscopy through the Conjoint Committee for Recognition and Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE), including current recertification where applicable; or
- A final-year Advanced Trainee in Gastroenterology and Hepatology expected to obtain FRACP within 12 months; or
- An overseas-trained physician assessed by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as substantially or suitably comparable to an Australian-trained specialist and eligible to work in Australia.
- Applicants should demonstrate training and experience in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and be eligible for, hold, or be working towards CCRTGE certification in Adult Gastroscopy and Adult Colonoscopy, where applicable.
- Highly developed patient assessment, investigation, interpretation, and management skills to provide appropriate high-quality care.
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work setting, as a team member.
- Detailed knowledge of community care services to facilitate protected transition to home after discharge.
- An interest in and a commitment to improving Aboriginal health.
