Senior Governance & Risk Officer
3-Month Contract | $80-$90 per Hour + Super | Local Government
Are you an experienced governance and risk professional looking for an opportunity to make an immediate impact?
Hays is partnering with a well-regarded local government organisation seeking an accomplished Senior Governance & Risk Officer to support the delivery of key governance, risk, compliance, and business continuity initiatives during a critical period.
This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute at both strategic and operational levels, working closely with executive stakeholders to strengthen organisational governance frameworks and promote a positive risk culture across the organisation.
Your New Role
You will play a pivotal role in managing and enhancing governance and risk practices while ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations.
Key responsibilities will include
- Managing Council's Enterprise Risk Management Framework and related risk activities.
- Leading Business Continuity Planning programs, including development, testing, training, and continuous improvement.
- Supporting the maintenance and enhancement of the Corporate Governance Framework.
- Coordinating statutory reporting requirements and legislative compliance obligations.
- Monitoring strategic and operational risks, reviewing controls, and investigating non-compliance incidents.
- Preparing reports, briefings, and governance papers for Executive Leadership and the Audit, Risk & Improvement Committee.
- Managing governance registers, including Conflict of Interest and Disclosure of Interest processes.
- Providing specialist advice on governance, compliance, risk management, and legislative requirements.
- Promoting Council's Fraud and Corruption Control Framework and supporting a culture of accountability and integrity.
What You'll Need to Succeed To be successful in this role, you will bring demonstrated experience in governance, compliance, risk management, or public sector administration alongside exceptional stakeholder engagement skills.
You will possess
- Tertiary qualifications in Governance, Risk Management, Law, Business, Public Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working within governance, risk, compliance, or business continuity functions.
- Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory frameworks, particularly within the public sector or local government environment.
- Knowledge of the ICAC Act, GIPA Act, PPIP Act, PID Act, and relevant Local Government legislation.
- Solid analytical and investigative skills with the ability to identify and mitigate risk.
- Excellent communication and report-writing capabilities.
- The ability to build productive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Solid organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
