An apprenticeship at Mackay Sugar is more than just training — it’s the foundation for a long-term career in your chosen trade. Through a combination of hands‑on learning and study at CQU, you’ll develop the expertise to become an outstanding tradesperson.

You’ll work across diverse environments including workshop, factory, field and off‑site placements, all while being supported by a structured in‑house mentoring program designed to help you succeed.

Our 2027 Intake is offering the following apprenticeships:

- Fabrication Trade - Boilermaker
- Mechanical Trade - Fitter & Turner
- Electrotechnology Electrician

All Apprenticeships will be based at one of our Mackay Sugar Sites (Racecourse, Farleigh, and Marian)

About you

You will have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in your chosen trade and be willing to commit to the four (4) year structured learning program. You will also bring the following skills, attributes and demonstrated training to an apprenticeship

- The ability and willingness to work safely and efficiently within a team environment.
- A current and valid Australian Driver’s License.
- Demonstrated work experience or previous studies in your chosen trade
- Completing Year 12 in 2026 with consistently robust academic results, including sound achievement or higher in English and Mathematics. (Electrical applicants must have undertaken Mathematical Methods or achieved high results in Mathematics).
- Completion of, or progress toward, a Certificate II in Engineering or Electrotechnology will be highly regarded.
- Experience working in an industrial or maintenance environment and have basic hand tool competency and adequate mechanical aptitude
- Excellent listening, comprehension, and communication skills

Selection process

**The selection process will include resume screening, aptitude testing, interviews, review of school results and reference checking**
