About the role

MMD Recruitment is partnering with a leading construction and infrastructure business to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager – Data Centres on a contract basis in Sydney CBD, with an immediate start available. This is a hands-on cost planning and estimating role working on Australia's data centre projects. You'll own the numbers from early feasibility through to tender — producing elemental cost plans and order of cost estimates, taking off and checking quantities, benchmarking against comparable data centre builds, and providing the commercial advice that shapes design decisions before they lock in cost.

The work is technically demanding and fast-moving, with high visibility to senior stakeholders. It suits an experienced QS or cost manager from a consultancy, client-side or major contractor background who can pick up complex mission-critical scopes quickly and work autonomously.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare elemental cost plans, order of cost estimates and feasibility estimates across multiple project stages
- Undertake and check measurement and quantities take-off, including bills of quantities and trade package pricing
- Benchmark costs against comparable data centre and mission-critical projects, maintaining cost data and rate libraries
- Produce cost reports, cash flow forecasts and variance analysis for project and executive reporting
- Lead value engineering and cost-saving studies, working with design and engineering teams on cost-effective solutions
- Review and price design changes, assessing commercial and program implications
- Support tender preparation, tender documentation and bid analysis, including negotiation of rates and variations
- Assess and report on risk and contingency, developing mitigation strategies to protect project budgets
- Liaise with architects, engineers, MEP consultants and contractors to validate scope and pricing assumptions
- Support the commercial team on variations, claims, progress claims and final accounts

What we're looking for

- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management,



Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- 7+ years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Cost Manager, Cost Planner or Estimator on major construction projects
- Solid cost planning and estimating capability — elemental cost plans, order of cost estimates and measurement are core to this role
- Data centre, mission-critical, industrial or major infrastructure experience highly regarded
- Confident measuring and checking quantities from drawings and models, with an eye for scope gaps
- Advanced Excel, plus experience with cost estimating and measurement software (CostX, Cubicost, Buildsoft or similar)
- Sound understanding of construction contracts, variations and commercial risk
- Exposure to projects with budgets in excess of $50 million desirable
- AIQS or RICS membership advantageous
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to hold your own with technical and executive stakeholders
- Available for an immediate or near-immediate start and comfortable working autonomously
