Shape the future of one of regional Australia's fastest-growing communities. Wagga Wagga City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Strategic Planner to join our Strategic Planning & Contributions team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished planning qualified to influence the long-term growth and development of our community through strategic land use planning, policy development and innovative planning solutions.
Working within a collaborative and high-performing team, you'll lead complex planning projects, provide expert advice on strategic planning matters and help deliver the initiatives that will shape Wagga Wagga for generations to come.
What We Will Offer You

What You'll Be Doing As a Senior Strategic Planner, you will:
- Lead the preparation and review of strategic planning documents including Local Environmental Plans (LEPs), Development Control Plans (DCPs) and planning studies.
- Deliver innovative planning solutions that support sustainable community growth.
- Assess and manage complex strategic planning proposals and planning scheme amendments.
- Prepare high-quality reports for Council and other committees.
- Provide expert planning advice to internal stakeholders, developers, government agencies and the community.
- Facilitate community consultation, stakeholder engagement, workshops and presentations.
- Monitor changes in planning legislation and provide specialist advice on emerging planning issues.
- Identify strategic growth opportunities and contribute to Council's long-term vision for land use planning.
What We're Looking For You will be an experienced strategic planning professional who is passionate about creating great places and delivering positive community outcomes. To Be Successful, You Will Have
- Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience (minimum four years) in strategic planning, including the preparation of strategic plans, policies and planning studies.
- Strong knowledge of NSW planning legislation and strategic land use planning principles.
- Excellent analytical, report writing and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement and negotiation abilities.
- The ability to manage multiple complex projects while maintaining a high standard of work.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to mentor and support other team members.
- A current Class C Driver Licence.
