The role

As part of Geoscience Australia’s human‑centred design capability, you will work with internal and external stakeholders to lead service design activities to improve processes and services.

The role uses a practical mix of service design, user research, business analysis, Lean and UX approaches to improve service outcomes and build organisational capability.

We’re looking for someone pragmatic who can apply these methods in a flexible way to solve problems and deliver meaningful improvements, not a rigid or purely theoretical approach.

Responsibilities

- Lead and deliver end‑to‑end service design activities across transformation and IT initiatives
- Plan and run workshops and stakeholder engagement to explore problems and agree on solutions
- Plan, conduct and synthesise user research to inform design and decision‑making
- Apply UX/UI design approaches to design and test concepts and improve user experience
- Analyse current and future state services to identify practical improvements
- Apply Lean, structured analysis and human‑centred design approaches tailored to each problem context
- Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across the organisation
- Work collaboratively across teams to support integrated delivery and achieve outcomes
- Provide guidance to others and contribute to building service design capability across the organisation

Qualifications

Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications

- Multi‑year experience in service design, user research and/or UX/UI
- Demonstrated work experience delivering service design across complex or large‑scale initiatives
- Demonstrated work experience in user research and/or UX/UI design in an organisation delivering products and/or digital services
- Demonstrated work experience working effectively in collaborative, multi‑disciplinary teams
- Demonstrated ability to apply a pragmatic approach to apply Lean, Service Design and business analysis techniques
- Demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and deliver work end‑to‑end within agreed constraints
- Demonstrated ability to translate user and business needs into clear requirements, user stories and specifications
