We are seeking a trade-qualified, highly skilled Plant Mechanic specializing in Heavy Equipment, Commercial Trucks, and Advanced Hydraulics to join our team full‑time in Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end diagnostic, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of a diverse fleet of earthmoving machinery and heavy transport vehicles.
This is a critical role focused on minimizing downtime, maintaining strict safety compliance, and ensuring our fleet operates at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnostics & Fault Finding: Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system faults using mechanical experience and electronic diagnostic tools.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Conduct scheduled servicing, preventative maintenance, and major breakdowns/repairs on heavy earthmoving plant (excavators, dozers, loaders) and heavy commercial trucks.
- Hydraulic Systems Specialist: Diagnose, strip down, repair, and rebuild hydraulic components including pumps, cylinders, valves, and hoses.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) / Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S;) guidelines. Maintain clean, hazard‑free work areas.
- Documentation: Accurately complete maintenance logs, service reports, time sheets, and parts ordering requests.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years of post‑apprenticeship experience working on major heavy equipment brands (e.g., Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo, John Deere) and heavy truck fleets (e.g., Kenworth, Volvo, Mack, Scania).
- Hydraulics Expertise: Demonstrated deep understanding of high‑pressure hydraulic systems and electronic‑over‑hydraulic controls.
- Licensing: Valid Heavy Rigid (HR) national driver’s license (or international equivalent) is highly desirable; a standard car license is mandatory.
- Skills: Strong capability to read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics.
Soft Skills & Physical Attributes
- Problem‑Solving: A logical approach to tracking down complex, intermittent faults.
- Autonomy: Ability to work efficiently independently (field service environments) as well as cohesively within a workshop team.
- Communication: Transparent verbal and written English for team handovers and safety reporting.
- Fitness: Physically fit and capable of performing heavy lifting and working in varied Australian weather conditions.
