Job Overview

Domestic assistants help NDIS participants and aged care clients keep their homes clean, organised, and comfortable. The work is practical and consistent, involving tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, dusting, bathroom cleaning, laundry, ironing, changing bed linen, and general tidying. Assistants may also run groceries or help clients set up a cleaning routine that fits their schedules and mobility.

The people you support range from older Australians who find housework physically difficult to NDIS participants whose disability requires ongoing help at home. For many, having a reliable, trustworthy domestic assistant allows them to remain in their own homes rather than moving into residential care.

Day‑to‑day, you work to a schedule set by the provider and participant. You often see the same people each week, building a solid working relationship and understanding what matters to them.

Responsibilities

- Vacuum, mop, and dust rooms and common areas.
- Clean bathrooms, kitchens, and other living spaces.
- Handle laundry, ironing, and bed linen changes.
- Perform general tidying and organize living areas.




- Assist with grocery shopping and errands as needed.
- Follow participant preferences and care plans.
- Maintain a clean and respectful environment for participants.

Qualifications

- Experience in domestic cleaning, laundry, and household tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and high cleanliness standards.
- Ability to follow participant preferences and care plans.
- Physical capability to perform sustained cleaning duties.
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy in a home environment.
- Good communication skills and respect for participant privacy.
- Reliable transport and a current driver's licence.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety in home settings.

Pay

- Weekday: $27–$32 per hour
- Saturday: $40–$48 per hour
- Sunday: $53–$63 per hour
- Public holiday: $66–$79 per hour
- Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top of these rates (often quoted as approximately $34–$40 per hour for ordinary casual hours).
