About the Role The Structural Engineer will play a key role in designing and reviewing structural steel support systems, access platforms, walkways, stairs and associated structural elements for water and wastewater pump stations and odour control projects.

The role requires practical experience in steel structure design, sound knowledge of AS 1657 and AS 4100, and demonstrated capability in structural analysis and modelling using SPACE GASS. Experience delivering structural designs within the water and wastewater infrastructure sector is highly regarded.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal civil, mechanical and drafting teams, as well as clients, consultants, suppliers and project stakeholders, to deliver safe, compliant and constructible structural solutions. Strong communication, technical judgement and time management skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Design and analysis of structural steel supports, equipment frames, access platforms, walkways, stairs,



ladders, handrails and associated connections.
- Develop and review SPACE GASS models for steel structures and platform systems.
- Design structures in accordance with AS 1657, AS 4100, AS/NZS 1170 and other relevant Australian Standards.
- Review structural steel fabrication drawings, general arrangements, connection details and material specifications.
- Coordinate structural requirements and interfaces with civil, mechanical, process and drafting teams.
- Review equipment loads, operational loads, wind actions, vibration/Seismic effects and maintenance access requirements.
- Design and assess base plates, anchor systems, supporting concrete elements and structural interfaces.
- Review geotechnical reports and apply relevant ground conditions to foundation and structural design.
- Design reinforced concrete slabs, plinths and foundations supporting steel structures and mechanical equipment.
- Provide technical support, review shop drawings during procurement, fabrication, installation and construction.
- Respond to technical queries, RFIs, design comments and site-related issues.
- Undertake structural inspections and verify completed works against approved designs where required.
- Prepare structural calculations, design reports, specifications and certification documentation.

Selection criteria:





- Strong experience in the design of structural steel supports, access platforms, walkways and related infrastructure.
- Sound working knowledge of AS 1657, AS 4100, AS/NZS 1170, AS 3600 and other applicable Australian Standards.
- Demonstrated experience developing and reviewing structural models using SPACE GASS.
- Experience designing steel connections, base plates, anchors, foundations and equipment support structures.
- Ability to produce and review structural calculations, design reports and fabrication drawings.
- Experience with AutoCAD and structural drafting or modelling workflows is advantage.
- Ability to deliver commitments independently while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and a practical understanding of fabrication, constructability, installation and maintenance access.
- Experience in the water and wastewater infrastructure sector is highly regarded.
- Familiarity with WSAA codes, water authority standards and SEQ specifications is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Pre-requisites:

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- CpEng, RPEQ, NER and/or relevant state-based professional engineering registration.
- Minimum 5+ years of structural engineering experience in a similar design role.
- Demonstrated steel structure and platform design experience.
- Water and wastewater infrastructure experience is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
