Senior Industrial Relations & Legal Officer (Health Manager Level 4)

Employment Type: Temporary Full Time, 38 hours per week until July 2027

Location: District Building - Liverpool, Eastern Campus

South Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Senior Industrial Relations & Legal Officer to join our high performing and collaborative People & Culture team on a temporary full‑time basis. This role provides expert advice and representation across a broad range of complex and sensitive industrial and employee relations matters in a dynamic, fast‑paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

- Provide expert advice on industrial and employment matters, supporting leaders to navigate complex issues and drive sound, compliant decision‑making across the District.
- Manage industrial disputes, grievances and investigations, and represent the organisation in key tribunals, offering exposure to high‑stakes and meaningful matters.
- Build strong relationships with unions, leaders and stakeholders, contributing to positive workplace outcomes and fostering a balanced, solutions‑focused culture.

Qualifications & Selection Criteria

- Strong legal and IR capability – Qualified in Law with eligibility to hold an unrestricted practising certificate in NSW.
- Trusted advisor and advocate – Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders, build relationships with unions, and represent matters in tribunals and formal proceedings.
- Practical and outcomes‑focused – Sound understanding of the NSW industrial relations system, strong professional judgement and ability to deliver balanced, pragmatic solutions to complex and sensitive issues.
- Qualifications in law from an Australian tertiary institution or comparable overseas qualification, plus a current unrestricted NSW Law Society practising certificate.
- Demonstrated sound knowledge of the NSW Industrial Relations system.




- Proven experience in HR and industrial negotiations and in providing sound advice on related matters.
- Experience in providing legal advice and representation, including presenting matters before industrial and other tribunals.
- Australian C‑class driver’s licence (P1 or P2). If held elsewhere, must obtain NSW C‑class (P1 or P2) within three months of appointment.
