Overview

Full‑time Cook position at Surfing Mermaid Secret Harbour. This is a permanent full‑time role (38 hours per week).

Candidate must be reliable, versatile and available to work weekdays, weekends and public holidays as required.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

- Check ingredients and prepared food items to ensure quality, freshness and food safety standards.
- Prepare and cook café‑style breakfast, lunch and all‑day menu items in accordance with recipes and service standards.
- Safely operate kitchen equipment (grills, ovens, fryers, cooktops, hotplates, toasters) and maintain consistent cooking.
- Prepare key menu components before and during service (sauces, sides, fillings, proteins, vegetables, rice, noodles, etc.).
- Apply appropriate seasoning, sauces and flavoring during cooking to maintain established taste and menu consistency.
- Portion, plate and present meals consistently, applying correct serving sizes, sides, sauces and garnishes.
- Store, label and rotate raw, cooked and prepared food in fridges, freezers and hot‑holding areas in accordance with food safety and hygiene procedures.
- Prepare meals according to customer requests and available menu variations, including gluten‑free, vegetarian, vegan and no‑butter options where applicable.
- Assist with daily preparation planning,



stock usage and estimating food quantities based on demand, menu requirements, busy periods and group bookings.
- Support kitchen hands, junior staff and new employees by demonstrating correct preparation methods, cooking procedures, portion control, plating standards, cleaning routines and safe food handling practices.
- Perform other duties as reasonably required by management.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

- Relevant cookery, hospitality or commercial kitchen qualification.
- At least 1–2 years of experience in a busy café, restaurant or commercial kitchen.
- Sound knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, kitchen equipment operation, portion control and plating standards.
- Understanding and ability to follow food safety, hygiene, stock rotation, temperature control and safe food storage procedures.
- Capable of working efficiently during busy service periods, following recipes and supporting team members.

Company: Surfing Mermaid Pty Ltd T/A Surfing Mermaid (ABN ) also known as Surfing Lizard Secret Harbour, a beachside café and casual dining venue located at 11 Palermo Cove, Secret Harbour WA 6173.

Salary: $80,000–$85,000 per annum.
