- The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) will lead a multidisciplinary team in the Day Oncology unit at St. John of God Bendigo Hospital, ensuring the delivery of comprehensive cancer care services on a permanent, full‑time basis.

Key Responsibilities

- Overall management of the department, including workforce planning, financial and resource management, and quality and risk oversight.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate strategic and operational initiatives to meet key performance indicators and maintain compliance with National and State standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory obligations.
- Monitor standards of service and practice against benchmark targets (nurse‑sensitive indicators, incident management data, clinical indicator results, and patient/doctor/caregiver satisfaction).
- Design and implement responses when benchmarks are not met, and evaluate outcomes.
- Support and participate in the ACHS accreditation process, regulatory assessments, and group‑wide and divisional Quality and Clinical Risk Management programmes.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes, ensuring patients and consumers are actively involved in relevant planning and decision‑making processes.
- Work clinically within the department as required to support caregivers, medical officers, and to deliver safe, person‑centred care.
- Conduct ongoing financial management and monitoring of the service cost centre—productivity, activity, and utilisation—to align with budgetary parameters and performance targets.
- Promote a culture of innovation and improvement to enhance patient care and experience.




- Contribute to marketing the service to medical practitioners in consultation with the Hospital Management Committee.

Qualifications and Experience

- Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Advanced clinical skills, strong relationship‑building abilities, and oncology nursing knowledge.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Oncology Nursing, Management, or a related discipline are highly regarded.
- Contemporary leadership and management experience in a senior nursing position within an acute hospital setting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, drive positive patient outcomes, and support a culture of clinical excellence.
- Commitment to placing patients at the core of all service delivery.
- All employees are required to be vaccinated against influenza.
