Role Summary

- Employment Type: Fixed Term (until Feb 2028), Full Time
- Salary: HM25 to HM30 + Superannuation + Salary Packaging

About the role

We are seeking a senior registrar to join our team for 2027 in the Chief Registrar role. This position is full‑time and will suit senior trainees wishing to develop leadership, independent clinical skills, and gain exposure to safety & quality and organisational operations as a transition to consultant role. The position includes 2 × outpatient clinics weekly (one general medical and one developmental), overnight first on‑call (with close consultant back‑up), ward‑based supervision and oversight of JMS, and mentorship/support for the JMS team. The Chief Paediatric Registrar works closely and collaboratively with the consultant team.

Key responsibilities

- Daily consultant ward rounds. Ability for the chief registrar to independently run ward rounds and take consultant call with supervisor support and mentorship.
- Exposure to a wide range of inpatient and outpatient situations requiring independent decision making, with dedicated admin time.
- Teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Staff seconded from Western Health and Royal Children’s Hospital is an important role of the position, and the chief registrar will also take medical student tutorials. The Chief Registrar assists in planning the educational program for the department, with support from consultants.
- Involvement in safety and quality for paediatrics including M&M;, procedure and guideline development, and parent information leaflets.



Opportunity to be involved in other areas of departmental administration and governance.
- Active teaching and research programs in place with expectation of contributions by the successful applicant. Simulation scenarios are regularly run on the ward and there is opportunity to become involved with the faculty/running of these simulations for a trainee wishing to pursue this.
- Organisation of the annual FRACP examination locally, with close support from our consultant team to achieve this.
- Time and opportunity to explore a special interest within General Paediatrics.

About you

- A medical qualification recognised in Victoria, Australia
- Current Australian medical registration and registration with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in the relevant training or post‑fellowship program
- Clinical competence as required for level of position
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Prior experience at Western Health is desirable, but not essential
