Job Description

Mersey Community Hospital located in Latrobe is a key healthcare provider for the NW Tasmania community. The Food Services Department supports the wellbeing and recovery of patients by ensuring high‑quality, safe, and nutritious meals are prepared and delivered daily. As a Cook, you will contribute to the efficient operation of hospital food services through meal preparation, including special dietary requirements, while maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, WH&S;, and kitchen cleanliness.

The Role

This role is located at Mersey Community Hospital in Latrobe and is responsible for the efficient production and delivery of daily food requirements for patients, residents, day activity clients, staff, and community clients in accordance with Food Safety standards. Working on a casual basis, the role responds to service demands and involves rotating shift work year‑round (365 days), including early morning and afternoon, weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.

Responsibilities

- Undertake the preparation, cooking, and chilling of all meals, including special dietary requirements, in accordance with standard recipes.
- Assist with cleaning of equipment and the workspaces within the kitchen facility.
- Maintain a high standard of food, personal hygiene and Work Health and Safety (WH&S;) in accordance with the relevant codes of practice and legislation.
- Become familiar with and strictly adhere to the department’s Food Safety Plan, including completing documentation relating to the plan.
- Perform other duties within the capacity,



qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Required Qualifications

- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (SIT30821 or greater).
- Experience in the Food Industry as a Chef/Cook.

Appointment Details

- Fixed term, casual; position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible until 31 January 2028.
- Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$76,849 to $82,996 per annum (pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Union Wages Agreement 2025.
