About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Migration Subject Matter Expert to play a critical role in the expansion and optimisation of a statewide mission-critical communications network supporting emergency service organisations throughout NSW.
Working within a specialist program delivery team, you will provide expert technical leadership throughout the migration of operational users from legacy radio communications environments to an enhanced digital network. You will assess network coverage, develop migration strategies, identify technical risks and collaborate with engineering, delivery and operational stakeholders to ensure seamless service continuity.
This role requires deep expertise in mission-critical radio communications, Motorola technologies and radio frequency engineering. You will become the trusted technical advisor supporting agencies that rely on highly resilient communications every day.
Position: Technical Migration Subject Matter Expert – Up to $1200 per day + super - TBC depending on experience
Location: Sydney CBD
Working Arrangement: Primarily office-based with occasional site travel across NSW
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 12 Months with strong potential for extension
Key Responsibilities
- Develop technical migration strategies for transitioning agencies onto the enhanced communications network.
- Analyse existing radio communication environments and identify migration requirements.
- Conduct desktop coverage assessments and recommend practical technical solutions.
- Validate radio frequency performance and network capability across operational environments.
- Work closely with engineering teams to resolve coverage gaps and optimise network performance.
- Provide technical leadership throughout migration planning, implementation and validation activities.
- Assess technical risks and develop mitigation and contingency plans.
- Support acceptance testing, defect resolution and migration sign-off activities.
- Undertake field testing using specialist equipment where required.
- Produce technical reports, migration documentation and implementation plans.
- Provide expert advice on Motorola radio systems, network architecture and RF technologies.
- Liaise with emergency service agencies and technical stakeholders to ensure operational requirements are achieved.
- Participate in design reviews and provide recommendations for continuous network improvement.
- Assist with migration scheduling to minimise operational disruption.
- Support troubleshooting activities during deployment and transition phases.
- Ensure compliance with telecommunications standards, program governance and safety requirements.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, vendors and delivery partners to achieve program milestones.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned throughout the migration program.
About You You are a highly experienced telecommunications professional with extensive knowledge of mission-critical radio communications and a passion for delivering technically complex infrastructure projects. You enjoy solving challenging technical problems while building trusted relationships with engineering teams and operational stakeholders. To be successful you will demonstrate:
- Extensive experience delivering telecommunications or critical communications infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated expertise with Motorola radio communications technologies.
- Strong understanding of radio frequency principles, antenna systems and network optimisation.
- Experience supporting large-scale technology or network migration programs.
- Ability to perform technical analysis and recommend practical engineering solutions.
- Experience working closely with engineers, vendors and government or enterprise stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Excellent written documentation and technical reporting skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience participating in testing, commissioning and validation activities.
- Knowledge of mission-critical communications environments supporting emergency or public safety organisations will be highly regarded.
- Experience using RF planning or coverage analysis tools such as Planet is advantageous.
- Relevant qualifications in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Current Australian driver's licence is desirable due to occasional site visits.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government security clearances.
- Full Australian working rights are required. Sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must hold Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or a long-term visa with unrestricted work rights in Australia.
