Role type: Full Time, Continuing (Research Contingent). Faculty: Faculty of Business and Economics. Department: Melbourne Institute of Applied Economics and Social Research. Salary: Level C - $152,695 - $176,065 p.a. plus 17% super.

You will lead applied industrial microeconomics research using ABS PLIDA and BLADE data for policy impact. You will collaborate with government and industry partners while building your academic profile in a non-teaching role.

What you will deliver

- Lead applied industrial microeconomics projects using ABS PLIDA and BLADE data to address priority policy questions.
- Produce high-quality journal articles, discussion papers and policy reports for academic, government and industry audiences.
- Secure external and internal research funding, including ARC-style grants and commissioned projects for public agencies.
- Engage regularly with government and industry stakeholders through briefings, presentations, consultations and collaborative projects.
- Mentor and coordinate junior researchers to deliver high-quality analysis and meet project timelines and milestones.

Qualifications and experience

- Hold a PhD in economics or econometrics.
- Demonstrate extensive experience analysing ABS PLIDA and BLADE data for firm-level and industry-level research.
- Show a strong record of publications in high-quality journals and policy-focused reports.
- Bring a sustained interest in applied, data-driven research rather than primarily theoretical or teaching-focused work.
- Evidence of success delivering projects for government or industry clients, including clear communication to non-technical audiences.
- Lead and support research teams, coordinating junior staff to meet deadlines and project objectives.
