Position Summary

2 x part-time opportunities (0.6–0.8 FTE), contract until 20 June 2027. Based at headspace Narre Warren on the lands of the Bunurong/Boonwurrung People. Competitive hourly rate + 12% Super + Salary Packaging benefits of up to $18,550.

Role Overview

You will be part of a young person's first step towards support. As a Youth Worker, you create a safe, inclusive and youth‑friendly experience for young people accessing headspace services, supporting intake, brief intervention, counselling, youth health, school‑based and allied health services. You help young people navigate services, access timely care and build connections that promote positive wellbeing outcomes.

Responsibilities

- Support young people to access care by completing phone screens, in‑person appointments, intake conversations and service navigation.
- Provide brief, strengths‑based support using HEADSS assessments, single‑session work, brief interventions and psycho‑education.
- Help reduce wait times by supporting young people while they wait to access clinical practitioners, allied health providers or intake and brief intervention clinicians.
- Build connection and engagement with young people, families, friends and stakeholders in a professional, timely and culturally responsive way.
- Coordinate practical supports and referrals by linking young people with headspace National services, consortium agencies, community supports and other relevant services.
- Contribute to group programmes and resources by supporting evidence‑informed psycho‑social groups and helping identify useful resources across the service.
- Maintain accurate client records through Each’s Client Management System (Episoft) and ensure service data is recorded in hAPI.




- Support inclusive community engagement by contributing to awareness activities for young people from diverse communities, including CALD, Indigenous, LGBTIQA+, young men, and young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Qualifications

- Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience working with adolescents and young adults with mild to moderate mental health presentations, and a sound understanding of adolescent development and youth mental health.
- Experience completing mental health assessments, including mental state examination and risk assessment.
- Confidence working with young people, families and friends from diverse backgrounds and communities.
- Ability to work independently and contribute positively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in a headspace, youth mental health or community‑based setting.
- Experience using brief intervention, single‑session or recovery‑oriented approaches.
- Familiarity with HEADSS assessments, hAPI, Episoft or similar client management systems.
- Experience supporting young people from diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, LGBTIQA+ young people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, refugees, people with disability and neuro‑divergent young people.
- Understanding of local services,



referral pathways and supports available to young people and families.
