A position is currently available for a Trainee in Emergency Medicine at Dubbo Health Service.

The Emergency

Department at Dubbo Health Service is an accredited training site for the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM), and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). From 2022 the Dubbo Emergency Department will be able to offer:

- ACEM Trainees: Up to 24‑months accredited training time in Emergency Medicine - ACRRM Trainees: 12‑months of Advanced Skills Training in Emergency Medicine. There is an established Emergency Medicine training program within the ED with regular protected teaching every Thursday between 2 pm and 6 pm. The Dubbo ED has assisted ACEM Trainees to successfully pass the ACEM Primary and ACEM Fellowship examinations.

Dubbo Health

Service has additional accredited training positions in the following sub‑specialty terms:

- Paediatric Medicine Dubbo Health Service is a member of Emergency Medicine training Network 1. Secondment terms are available through Network 1 to the following hospitals:
- Liverpool Hospital - Royal Prince Alfred Hospital - Bankstown Hospital - Concord Hospital - Canterbury Hospital - Campbelltown Hospital Dubbo Emergency Department also has close ties with the Emergency Departments at Orange Health Service and Tamworth Rural Referral Service, and participates in regular joint teaching sessions and can arrange secondment terms to these (and other) facilities if desired.

Service is the major Rural Referral Hospital for the Northern Sector area of the Western NSW Local Health District.

The Emergency

Department is a Level 5 ED that is currently seeing 52,000 patient presentations per annum. The Dubbo ED is the primary referral destination for 23 smaller facilities within the Northern Sector, the majority of which have no on‑site Medical Officer available.

Hospitals for Dubbo Health Service are:

- Major Trauma: Westmead Adults Hospital - Paediatric Trauma and Medicine: Children’s Hospital Westmead - Adult Medicine and Surgery: Royal Prince Alfred - Ophthalmology Emergencies: Sydney Eye Hospital - Major Burns: Concord Hospital - Spinal Injuries: Royal North Shore Hospital Dubbo Health Service provides a range of acute inpatient and ambulatory care services including:
- General Surgery - Paediatric Medicine - Obstetrics and Gynaecology - Orthopaedic Surgery - Urology - Ear, Nose and Throat - Cardiology - Respiratory Medicine - Haematology - Oncology - Intensive Care - Hospital in the Home Dubbo Health Service has just finished a major redevelopment project that has included construction of new departments and facilities, including the following:
- Emergency Department and ED Short Stay Unit - Ambulatory Care Unit - Coronary Care Unit and Cardiac Catheter Laboratory - Intensive Care Unit - Maternity and Special Care Nursey - Surgical Wards - Operating Theatre complex - Renal Dialysis Unit MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category. Completion of at least Three (3) postgraduate years of medical practice. Valid NSW Working with Children check.

Cleared National

Check for Australian Government funded positions.



To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time. You must take all reasonable care for yourself and others and comply with any reasonable instruction, policies and procedures relating to work health safety and wellbeing.

Preferable but not Essential Requirements - Member of either ACEM or ACRRM, or intention to become a member within 6‑months.

- Experience in Rural Emergency Medicine.
- Demonstrated commitment or desire to live and work in a rural location.
- Experience working in Dubbo or elsewhere in the Western NSW LHD.

Selection

Criteria - Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.

- Must have Australian experience or be eligible for Competent Authority pathway.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective oral, written and computer skills and demonstrated good organisational time management skills.
- Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self‑education.
- Ability and willingness to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in a shift and on‑call roster.
- Demonstrated orientation to rural/regional practice through life experiences, medical school and/or residency, outlining evidence of commitment to the provision of health care in a rural setting, preferably with experience of rural or regional medicine.

Applicants holding a visa with working rights may be considered for temporary appointment (up to the expiry date of their visa) where no suitable Australian/New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident is identified.
