Uniting Counselling and Mediation are seeking an Anchor Counsellor to support children and young people (0–18) and their parents post‑separation. This part‑time 12‑month contract is 3 days per week (21 hours), based in Newcastle, with flexibility to work Monday‑Friday. The role is part of a new specialist Anchor counselling model based on trauma‑informed care.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide individual therapy, family therapy and group‑based support to children and young people.
- Engage parents to strengthen parent‑child relationships and reduce chronic stress and trauma symptoms post‑separation.
- Deliver a 6‑to‑10 session model for separation challenges.
- Offer long‑term trauma‑informed therapy (up to 20 sessions) for children and young people affected by domestic and family violence.
- Facilitate therapeutic group programs for children, young people, and parents.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team through case discussions, team meetings and professional development.
- Allocate time for supervision, documentation and training.
- Contribute to the rollout of modality‑specific interventions, including trauma‑focused CBT.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field.
- Experience working therapeutically with children, young people (5–18) and/or parents.
- Understanding of child protection issues and trauma‑informed practice.
- Eligibility for membership with a relevant professional body.
Additional Requirements
- Experience delivering long‑term counselling or group therapy.
- Knowledge of and experience working in the context of domestic/family violence and high‑conflict family dynamics.
- Training in trauma‑focused approaches (CBT, play therapy, etc.).
